I think the distinction made between gubernatorial races, which hinge strongly on local issues rather than federal issues, and the NY-23 race for a seat at the federal table, is valid.  I really don’t see the gubernatorial races as a referendum on President Obama.

But I don’t see any strong presidential coattails in the NY-23 contest either.  I think the Republic party shot itself in the foot with an Uzi.  And this seems to be the state it is in at present.  It has  met the enemy and it is It.  That is normally the Dims’ exclusive agenda. 

Two things that I see in these races:

·         The Dims had better sit up and take notice – their base is pissed and Obama’s still high popularity numbers is not going to pull their sizzling fat out of the fire.  Unless they get it together in short order, they are going to get their butts waxed in 2010.  I am glad that they got slapped around.  Better now then in the midterms.  But I am not overly confident that they are not going to continue to shoot themselves in the foot in the traditional Dimcrat manner.

·         The Reps are in the process of disintegration, and they (you) are hopefully and probably going to think they are on a roll because of the two new RepGubers.  This disarray as the hard-right guts what was once a truly conservative party is going to result in a division of forces, probably resulting ultimately in two parties.  That along with the horn blowing (see this blog) is in all probability going lead them to walk into the Dims’ resurgent popularity in 2010, resulting in the wasting of a slim opening for the right to regain lost ground.

I think ya gotta make a distinkshion between the GOP elephants and the Radright Neocon coalition adam. 

I stand by my prediction that the "Republican Party" is now arrayed in two opposing camps on opposite sides of the frozen river of ideology dividing them.  For the time being they can travel back and forth across the thin ice of a common origin, but when the Chinook winds blow warm from Alaska and melt that ice they will go their own way never again to be estranged partners.

So what this leaves is the vast middle who oscillates between Red TEAM/Blue TEAM at elections time, making the deciding votes....

Funny, they swap TEAMs thinking they will get LESS of what they got LAST TIME, forgetting that TIME before LAST they got the same old s*** they dont want now....

All because they fall for the same Red TEAM/Blue TEAM game.

You, and other low-info's, relate President Obama's visits tp GOPher victories in NJ and VA.  Both are indisputable facts but is there a causation there? 

I think not.

From the git-go, VA was considered a tossup and the NJ race was worse.  Of course, the President campaigned for the Democratic candidate in both states - that's what politicians do.  That is, unless you're a GOPher - I don't recall seeing anything about McCain, the titular head of his Party campaigning on behalf of the GOPher's candidates.

Furthermore, the CBS exit polls - described elsewhere - clearly show that the vote was not a referendum on Obama or the Democrats. 

So what's your point?

More to the point - what do you think of Congressional Republicans?  Are they doing the job you expect them to do?

What about the Conservative GOPher insurrection?  Do you support it, like the BAA Boy, or can you tell the difference between dogs and minority members who've been executed?

Except for a stray here and there (Snow, Specter and Cao) they've been virtually in lockstep in their opposition to everything the Dems put up and have offered virtually nothing in legislation of their own!
